Financial Problems in Marriage are
Common
All too Frequently, as Earnings Increase so does
Spending and Financial Problems in Marriage Escalate to a higher Level
No matter how much people earn or how rich (or poor) they are one of the constant subjects
for marital conflict is financial problems in marriage.
We all love to spend!!!
Money is part of daily life and the more you earn the more you spend so whether financial
problems in marriage are over how money is earned, how it is spent or how it is saved, money fights are one of those common marriage problems that form part of daily life.
People’s ideals and attitudes toward money are often learned in childhood and when married
couple’s ideas on how to handle their finances widely differ, conflict in marriage is almost impossible
to avoid.
Some couples cope with spendthrift partners by ensuring that the spouse who is least likely
to waste money takes complete control of the family finances.
Other ways of controlling spendthrift partners are to:
-
Have one or no family credit cards
-
Keeping a second bank account with limited funds for the use of the partner who is prone to wasting
money
-
Paying all monthly bills by standing order the day your salaries hit the bank
-
Diverting funds out of your main bank account to cover necessities
-
Moving the family assets into the sole name of the partner that controls the finances
-
Keeping separate bank accounts but transferring money into a joint account to pay bills
-
Making each partner responsible for certain bills (not always a good method when one partner is
prone to forgetting bills and spending their money on more interesting purchases.
Like with all marriage problems, financial problems in
marriage have to be resolved through strong communication and the setting of goals.
Don’t forget, everyone has to have a little of something good so totally eliminating the
funds to spend on what could be considered as luxuries will probably mean you financial plan will fail.
If you spend more than what you earn, set it out in black and white so it is plain to see,
clear to both partners. List all your incomings and outgoings and then put an action plan together to reduce your expenditure below your level
of earnings and / or increase your earnings through overtime, second jobs or a change of career.
